Families facing food insecurity are among those most affected by impacts of the coronavirus. As a grocer first, we see feeding our communities as our job and our passion.
Many schools have taken it upon themselves to ensure that students who rely on subsidized or free meals during school hours do not go without now that schools are closed. In March, each of our stores received additional funds to donate to the community, and many chose their local school district.
The Richmond, Ind. Meijer split its donation money among many community organizations, including Centerville-Abington Schools to help feed students and families in that area. Not only did the store contribute money, but it also donated food staples, such as bread and fresh fruit.
Further north in Michigan, a surprise gift helped boost budgets and morale at Manistee High School. Our Manistee store team delivered a monetary donation toward the school’s drive-up breakfast and lunch program.
