Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)

Part of our commitment to being a good neighbor is constructing environmentally-responsible buildings.

Meijer uses the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard to help guide store design. LEED is the most widely used and recognized green building certification standard in the United States, and Meijer certifies one store to the LEED standard every year. We started certifying stores through this program in 2007, and we continue to use this standard to improve the sustainability of our new stores. Some sustainable design and construction elements in our stores include water-efficient landscaping and fixtures, as well as energy-efficient building systems.
