Meijer is committed to responsible growth. As we continue to add new stores and remodel existing ones across the Midwest, we believe it’s important to do so in an environmentally responsible manner, from design to construction.
With all new stores, we’re focused on building a store in the right way so that it’s inherently energy and water efficient. The Meijer environmental and design teams also assess new store locations for green infrastructure suitability with a special focus on improving stormwater management in our communities. This is of unique importance in the Great Lakes watershed because we have a responsibility to be good stewards of the largest freshwater lake system in the world.
We build efficient, environmentally sustainable stores. We just see it as part of being a good neighbor.
By developing new stores on former industrial sites, we’re able to re-use existing infrastructure and invest in the long-term safety and economic growth of our communities.
As a Michigan-based company, we have a special appreciation for freshwater, especially the Great Lakes. The rainwater that falls on our properties eventually makes its way to the Great Lakes through streams, rivers and groundwater, so we consider it our responsibility to keep that water clean.
