Our mission of enriching lives in the communities we serve begins with a focus on serving people. This year, we launched the “Stronger Together, Meijer Unity and Community” campaign across our company, encouraging teams to show their commitment to unity and supporting diversity.
Some teams volunteered in their communities. Others held celebrations highlighting what makes each member of their team unique.
Our Aurora, Ill. store celebrated how they are stronger together across a whole week of Diversity & Inclusion-themed events. Each day of the week focused on different June holidays, celebrating diverse groups, including Juneteenth and Caribbean-American Heritage Month. One day, the store celebrated National Puerto Rican Day by catering in a meal from a local Puerto Rican-owned restaurant. Another day, they celebrated Pride Month with rainbow layered cakes, Pride trivia and information about local Pride events in their community.
“We want our teams to feel comfortable bringing their true selves to work every day because we know we’re stronger together,” Aurora Store Director Nichole Cole said. “You could see different members of our team feeling recognized and engaged, and others excited to hear more about the resources we offer to learn about Diversity & Inclusion at Meijer.”
