Last month, Meijer pharmacists from across the Indianapolis area came to the Black and Minority Health Fair as part of the Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration event to administer health screenings and give out healthy snacks to attendees.
The Indiana Black Expo is a nonprofit organization that hosts events and programs to celebrate Black culture. This year, the Indiana Black Expo hosted its annual Summer Celebration for its 50th anniversary.
“The Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration is iconic in this community, so for Meijer to be a part of it is really rewarding,” said Lonnie Jordan, Store Director of the E. Washington St. Meijer in Indianapolis. Having grown up in Indianapolis, Lonnie remembers going to the event as a kid and thinking it was huge.
Meijer has sponsored the event for more than 5 years, as well as hosting a table, bringing healthy snacks in our food truck and doing blood pressure and body mass index screenings.
“I’m so pleased to be with a company that values events like these, especially events that highlight diversity,” Lonnie said. “Being a part of events like this shows our team members and customers that we care about all of them.”
