More than 6,000 turkeys and thousands of Thanksgiving fixings went to fill the bellies of families in the communities we serve across our footprint, thanks to the generosity of our stores for the recent holiday.
In Illinois, our Evergreen Park store helped distribute almost 100 turkeys and Thanksgiving meal bags with their Simply Give pantry partner, Evergreen Park Food Pantry.
But that wasn’t all. A last-minute request for turkeys came to the store just a few days before Thanksgiving from an organization who couldn’t get everything they needed from a previous vendor. The Jordyne Cares/Roseland Matters organization was in a bind when they reached out to our store, which was able to donate 100 turkeys to be distributed in the community.
Over in Detroit, two events resulted in more than 1,000 Thanksgiving meals going to families in that area. Jive Turkeys Detroit partnered with our Grand River store to purchase 500 turkeys and, thanks in part to a donation from Meijer, served 635 families at a turkey donation event.
Not to be outdone, the Detroit Pistons geared up for a Season of Giving Drive-Thru Turkey Giveaway, and partnered with us to provide 650 pre-packed Thanksgiving meals to local families.
Our stores also partnered with the LEAD Foundation to provide 500 full Thanksgiving meals to residents in Detroit and Flint, Mich.
These are just a small sample of how our stores supported our neighbors in need during the Thanksgiving holiday and we look forward to supporting our communities throughout the rest of the holiday season.
