Heavy rains and dam failure caused massive flooding earlier this month in Midland and Gladwin Counties in mid-Michigan. Thousands of residents were forced to evacuate. Thankfully, when the floodwaters rose, our team members did as well.
Team members from our Saginaw store helped more than 150 households in the area by donating bleach and other items they needed to clean up from the effects of the floodwaters. Store Director Charles Hendricks said these families are obviously under a lot of stress from the disaster, new financial obligations, unexpected repairs, and of course, the ongoing challenges of the coronavirus.
“I can speak for our entire team here at [store] 42 on how exceptionally proud we feel. We truly enrich the communities we are serving,” Hendricks said.
Our Outbound Logistics Team also rushed to aid customers by facilitating urgent water loads to Meijer stores in the areas impacted by the flooding.
Additionally, Meijer donated $15,000 in food and essential items to the Billings Township Fire Department to help families in the area.
