Our commitment to enrich lives in the communities we serve is even stronger in our new normal. One population we’re particularly pleased to serve is our nation’s veterans.
Our Tipp City, Ohio distribution center partnered with the United Service Organizations to facilitate donations for Ohio’s Army National Guard soldiers supporting COVID-19 operations. So far, the USO has completed two pickups of non-perishable food and toiletries – totaling 600 cases.
“These kids act like it’s Christmas when the USO van arrives,” USO Liaise Mia Walthers said.
In Michigan, we’re partnering with the state to provide grocery vouchers to veterans in need. The vouchers are part of a new option from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to use state County Veteran Service Fund grants for COVID-19 emergency assistance to veterans and their families.
The $50 and $100 grocery vouchers will go to eligible veterans in counties that opt into the voucher program. Vouchers can be used to purchase food, paper products, laundry and household cleaning products, health and beauty care items and pet food.
Along with the grocery vouchers, these grants can help veterans make essential repairs to their homes and vehicles, pay medical bills, and meet other basic needs. For more information on the Michigan grocery vouchers for veterans program, click here.
