After his first year as a volunteer for the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give in 2019 as a standard bearer, Peter Crawford will return this year as a marshal. After he found his first year as a volunteer so rewarding, the Site Adapt Design Project Manager on the Meijer Properties and Real Estate team knew he wanted to volunteer again.
Crawford knew what he was doing was important to a sport he loves and the community in which he lives. The issue of food insecurity is one close to Peter’s heart, as it so frequently relates to homelessness, an issue his family cares about deeply.
“My wife works for Covenant House, a homeless youth shelter, so I am very informed on these problems in our communities nationwide,” Crawford said. “Whether it be homelessness or hunger, or sometimes both, these problems that millions of people face in this country are largely unnoticed by society.”
While Crawford’s love for golf makes this event a fun opportunity to volunteer his time, it is the cause that makes volunteering important to him.
“There is more we can all do, and give, and events like this really bring the much-needed awareness.”
