Meijer Continues Philanthropic Commitment in Marquette
May 2, 2018

In advance of its Marquette Meijer store opening, the retailer recently donated two reconditioned semi-trucks and trailers to Northern Michigan University’s new CDL Truck Driving Program. The donation came on the heels of the retailer’s sponsorship of the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association in advance of the U.P. 200 in February.

“This is an extraordinary gift that will help us launch an educational program to meet high industry demand,” NMU President Fritz Erickson said. “We thank Meijer for this investment, and for its faith in Northern to train the highest-quality CDL drivers for Meijer and other companies throughout the region.”

The vehicles – valued at an estimated $100,000 – had previously been part of the Meijer fleet and were recently replaced with ones that offered the latest technology in emissions control. Both of the vehicles have been reconditioned and prepped for their next use at NMU, including new tires, maintenance inspections and new graphics.

Since 2010, Meijer has donated 93 tractors and 33 trailers to community partners across the Midwest.
