This summer Meijer partnered with the city of Grand Rapids, Mich. to provide a six-week paid summer internship experience to underserved youth through the city’s Grow 1000 program.
“We’re showing the community that we care about them and that we aren’t forgetting anybody,” said Meijer Team Leader Rufeeshia Black, who served as a mentor to the student participants in her store. “We want them to be part of the store. They are what makes this company better.”
This is not our first time offering tailored development programs to teens interested in learning about retail. Our partnership with Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Mich. has been developing future leaders in our stores for 2 years.
