This winter, a sinkhole 250 feet long and 100 feet wide erupted in the town of Fraser, Mich. City officials declared a state of emergency and ordered 22 homes to be evacuated. Knowing the effect the sinkhole would have on Fraser residents and nearby towns, St. John Lutheran Church in Fraser organized a spaghetti dinner to raise funds for those affected. The church expected to sell only 150 tickets, but ended up selling nearly 1,000 tickets. To ensure there was enough food on such short notice, organizers contacted Meijer.
Meijer took on the challenge and coordinated with the church and the Fraser store to assure there would be enough food for everyone who purchased a ticket. The collaborative work done by all parties involved showcased the true meaning of the Meijer core value, “family.”
