Meagan Rawers, daughter of Meijer team member Amy Rawers, was recently awarded the $10,000 Lena Meijer scholarship.
Meagan’s mother, Amy, a full-time cashier at the Troy, Ohio Meijer, is not the only connection Meagan has to the company. Meagan herself worked as a utility worker and bagger at Meijer in 2011.
“Helping Meagan pursue her goal of becoming a pharmacist is one way we can thank her mother, Amy, for her dedicated service and high productivity at Meijer over the past 21 years,” Meijer Co-Chairman Doug Meijer said.
Meagan leads a busy academic life, earning a 3.85 GPA at the University of Cincinnati where she will be a senior this year studying science and pharmacy. Despite the strenuous demands of college studies, Meagan finds time to volunteer at local soup kitchens and nursing homes to gain experience in the healthcare field.
She began attending her local community college to earn college credits as a junior in high school. This allowed her to receive her Associates Degree in Science the same month that she graduated from high school in 2013.
For the upcoming academic school year, Meijer distributed $473,000 in scholarships, furthering the education of 153 Meijer team members and their children. Of that amount, two recipients received the $10,000 Fred and Lena Meijer scholarships and 151 others received $3,000 scholarships.
