If you have ever been to our warehouse, you know the immense role volunteers play in our organization. Over the past 4 years, as Forgotten Harvest has grown, so has the volunteer program. Four years ago, approximately 6,100 volunteers came through our doors to help; today, over 15,000 volunteers donate more than 71,000 hours of their time. Forgotten Harvest depends on volunteers to repack food, assist with office tasks, as well as a long list of jobs out on our farm. Without our strong volunteer program, we would not be able to provide more than 41 million meals to those in need throughout metro Detroit.
Meijer recently recognized the importance of our volunteer program and stepped up with a gift of $15,000 to support the operations.
“Meijer was built on a fundamental philosophy of supporting the communities where our customers and team members work and live, and hunger relief is at the heart of those efforts. Meijer is pleased to sponsor Forgotten Harvest’s Driving Out Hunger program because it provides those in the community with opportunities to volunteer for such a great cause,” said Cathy Cooper, Meijer Senior Director of Community Partnerships and Giving.
We would love to have you join our volunteer team; you can see firsthand why so many people keep donating their time and encouraging their friends and family to do so too.
