Red Wings Take to Meijer Parking Lots to Teach Local Kids
Aug 5, 2016

The Detroit Red Wings is partnering with Meijer to make this summer special for many young hockey fans across Michigan with the team’s inaugural Street Hockey Summer Tour. The Red Wings Street Hockey Summer Tour is making stops at 10 Meijer supercenters across Michigan to host free hockey clinics.

Local children, ages 7 to 12, of all skill levels and hockey experience are flocking to Meijer parking lots to learn from Detroit Red Wings representatives and local hockey players and coaches. The Red Wings are hosting two clinics at each of the 10 Meijer locations. Each clinic lasts an hour-and-a-half and features skills training sessions, covering important basics of the sport like puck control, stick handling, and how to shoot different types of goals. Each clinic ends with a pickup street hockey game.

In addition, Meijer gives out healthy snacks and water at each event to keep all of the aspiring hockey players well-hydrated while teaching them about the importance of healthy living.
