The Grand Rapids Public Museum is teaching kids the magic of nature through science with its latest exhibit, The Robot Zoo. Featuring eight robotic animals, the exhibit includes a chameleon, rhinoceros, platypus, grasshopper and bat, as well as a giant squid with 18-foot long tentacles, a house fly with a 10-foot wingspread and giraffe whose neck and head stretch more than 9 feet tall.
The animated robots imitate their real-life animal counterparts, simulating their complex body and movements. To help children discover and learn more about how animals work, the exhibit has more than a dozen hands-on activities about each animal’s characteristics, as well as several sensory activities to make it a more engaging experience.
As a title sponsor of the exhibit, Meijer is proud to be a part of the larger-than-life experience that integrates ecology, biology, physics and mechanical engineering into one. In addition to exposing students in kindergarten through 8th grade on these various subjects, families can also enjoy the excitement of discovery together.
