Celebrity Chefs Cookoff #forehunger to benefit Simply Give
Jul 24, 2015
As part of this week’s LPGA tournament festivities, nationally-acclaimed celebrity chef Mario Batali and culinary expert Gail Simmons will participate in Meijer LPGA Celebrity Chef Cookoff Presented by Kraft tonight. The entertaining and interactive cooking event will be held at the Grand Rapids Public Museum, and will showcase their personal culinary creations for guests. They’ll also judge local Grand Rapids pastry chefs from Cakabakery, Field & Fire and Sweetie-Licious.

Before jumping into tonight’s festivities, the celebrity guests paid a visit to John Knox Food Pantry in Grand Rapids. There, Batali, Simmons, Meijer President J.K Symancyk and Meijer Co-Chairman Hank Meijer learned about hunger needs in Grand Rapids and received a behind the scenes look at the pantry’s hunger relief efforts with help from the Meijer Simply Give program.

The driving mission of Meijer LPGA Classic presented by Kraft is feeding the hungry and improving the quality of life for our neighbors throughout the region. Similar to last year, proceeds from the tournament – and each of the week’s community events – will benefit our Simply Give  program, which has helped food pantries across the Midwest keep their shelves stocked since November 2008. Last year, the inaugural Meijer LPGA Classic presented by Kraft raised more than $600,000 for the program to feed those in need.
