Gilda’s LaughFest, the nation’s only community-wide festival of laughter, kicks off March 5 to support Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids. The program launched in March 2011 to celebrate laughter for the health of it. The 10-day festival features stand-up comedians, improv actors, a community showcase, music, dance and more throughout Grand Rapids and West Michigan every year.
Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids is named after Gilda Radner, original cast member of Saturday Night Live, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 1989. Through her own personal journey, Gilda has reminded those dealing with cancer that it is alright to laugh and smile, even when dealing with life’s toughest situations.
All proceeds of LaughFest benefit the free emotional healthcare programs offered through Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids.
Meijer is pleased to be a sponsor of the Super Saturday Kid Zone, a kids’ themed carnival with inflatable activities, surprise guests, mini golf, games and a craft station to make masks.
