Meijer wishes to congratulate Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin President Bonnie Bellehumeur on her successful career of leading the state’s largest, private nonprofit food distributor. After 23 years of leading the food bank in its hunger relief efforts, Bellehumeur announced plans to retire effective Dec. 31, 2104.
During her tenure with FAEW, she has overseen the distribution of 293 million meals and raised more than $52 million. Last year alone, the food bank distributed 22.5 million pounds of food and raised more than $5 million. Nearly 330,000 people in eastern Wisconsin rely on food supplied by FAEW each year.
Although Meijer does not have stores open in Wisconsin yet, the retailer began a partnership with FAEW earlier this year. Meijer donated two semi-trucks and trailers, along with 132,510 pounds of food to the food bank to help ease the toll the holidays take on food banks.
