Meijer teamed up with SKECHERS and the K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers charitable organization to provide new shoes to 22,500 Detroit area children in need. Of those children, 2,000 were invited on Aug. 26 for a day of fun at the Detroit Zoo that included a new pair of BOBS from SKECHERS shoes, new school supplies, lunch, a visit around the zoo and the opportunity to meet fun mascots, including “PAWS” from the Detroit Tigers and “Roary” from the Detroit Lions. The remaining pairs of shoes were given to Detroit Public Schools to distribute to students in need throughout the school year.
“We are so thankful for this wonderful partnership with SKECHERS and Meijer,” said Karen Ridgeway, superintendent of academics for Detroit Public School. “Our students and parents were able to enjoy a day at the Detroit Zoo, and more than 20,000 children will receive brand new BOBS shoes to help ensure they have a great start to the school year. I know that this is a day they will never forget.”
