Aspiring athletes can test their shots and learn basic basketball and life skills this summer as Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer, Meijer, will again present the Mateen Cleaves 1 Goal 1 Passion Summer Basketball Camps. The popular three-day camps will be open to the first 1,000 Michigan youth to sign up online beginning Saturday. Camps will be held in Benton Harbor, Lansing and Flint, and thanks to Meijer, participants will only pay $1.
“We are thrilled to bring the 1 Goal, 1 Passion Summer Basketball camps back for a second year of fun and learning,” said Mateen Cleaves, a Fox Sports Detroit, Sirius XM and CBS Sports Analyst. “Last year, over 900 kids participated in the camps and in addition to basketball drills learned valuable lessons about nutrition, health, the environment, and character building skills that they were able to use throughout the year. With the support of Meijer, and our partner in making a difference in our community, the Boys & Girls Clubs, we hope to again offer a safe haven and a great experience to at-risk kids in communities across Michigan.”
