At Meijer, we are humbled by the generosity of our service men and women’s dedication to protecting our country. When we had the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ by donating 1,200 tickets for the Indianapolis Colts-Kansas City Chiefs 2014 playoff game to military families, we just couldn’t pass it up.
On March 13, 2014, the Indiana National Guard presented Meijer with a National Guard Minuteman statue recognizing our support of Hoosier military families.
“Meijer was founded on a fundamental philosophy of supporting the communities we serve because that is where our customers and team members work and live,” said Doug Meijer, who accepted the statue at the Indiana War Memorial. “We were pleased to share the Indianapolis Colts playoff tickets with military families as a way of thanking them for all they do.”
The donation also lifted the NFL’s television blackout to ensure football fans across the country could watch the game live.
“It was such a wonderful gesture for Doug, and the entire Meijer organization to step up and purchase the tickets, and then donate them to military families across the Hoosier state. It was just a wonderful and heartfelt gesture,” said Indiana National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, who presented the award.
