The UP200, an Iditarod qualifying race, and The Midnight Run, an eight-dog race from Marquette, Mich. to Chatham and back, draws mushers and sled dog enthusiasts from around the country and Canada. Both races begin in downtown Marquette and Meijer has been pleased to sponsor the events since 2018 when its store opened.

Marquette Meijer Store Director John Spaulding was in attendance and said the excitement was palpable.

“This is the biggest event in Marquette for the year,” he said.

The UP200 had 18 participating teams this year, covering 238 miles of terrain from Marquette to Grand Marais and back again through forested land and near-wilderness.
