Earlier this year, our Ypsilanti, Mich. store donated $5,000 to Dress for Success Michigan as part of the spring 2023 Meijer Team Gives program. Most recently, our Detroit-area team members continued their partnership with the organization by volunteering and working with young women to help them achieve economic independence.
Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization that provides a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and life.
Our group of team members, which consisted of store HR representatives and retail administrative assistants, provided a workshop for young women that focused on how to apply for a job at Meijer, resume writing, mock interviews and interview attire shopping.
“This event was a huge success. We had a fantastic time with these young ladies,” said MC Giroux, Ypsilanti Meijer HR representative. “We talked about how to build a resume, what should and shouldn’t go on it, and also organized a mock interview with one of the volunteers at the organization.”
After the presentation, the group had lunch and then helped the young women shop for interview appropriate clothing, shoes and accessories.
“We’d like to thank the Meijer team for an outstanding ‘Career Day’ seminar as I know the ladies really enjoyed the outlined information and tips for getting a job with Meijer,” said Cathleen Taylor, CEO of Dress for Success Michigan. “All of the Meijer presenters were compassionate and committed to their roles and hiring practices and we hope to invite them back soon.”
Since starting operations in 1997, Dress for Success has expanded to almost 145 cities in 20 countries. To date, Dress for Success has helped more than 925,000 women work towards self-sufficiency. Their Michigan headquarters is located in Ypsilanti.
