The Meijer West Detroit market and regional team recently took part in the Livingston County United Way 21st Annual Day of Caring. This annual event brings together hundreds of volunteers to help those in need throughout the community.
This year, our team members assisted in various outdoor cleanup projects at LACASA, an organization based in Howell, Mich. which supports those who have suffered child abuse, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault, and provides various community education services for adults and teens. Since 1981, LACASA has been an independent nonprofit, solely relying on individual donations and volunteers from the community to help keep its facility open and operating.
"It’s a great feeling being able to take time of our day to support communities in which we serve and help those who give so much in helping others,” said Charlotte Crowley, Human Resource Market Manager for the East Michigan Region at Meijer. “Our team was thrilled to be part of this day of service and not only help LACASA, but also make a positive impact alongside Livingston County United Way.”
Ahead of the event, Livingston County United Way collects worksite proposals from local residents, seniors, schools, disabled residents and non-profit agencies. The work is often minor household repair projects, cleaning and yard work that the homeowner/organization needs assistance with. What makes it unique is anyone can recommend a worksite so community members are encouraged to apply for a neighbor or friend who needs extra help.
The Livingston County United Way Day of Caring is a widely known event, welcoming close to 700 volunteers to support organizations within the county. Volunteers could be doing anything, from assisting senior citizens with home related repairs and improvements, helping schools collect supplies and pack backpacks, or organizing local food and personal care drive just to name a few projects.
