Community, Resilience, and Ongoing Relief Efforts
As repair efforts continue in Eastern Michigan following the Oakland County water main break emergency, Meijer is proud to stand with the communities affected during this challenging time. The disruption has had a significant impact on daily life, and we remain committed to supporting our customers, our team members, and our neighbors while helping keep essential services available.
In the days following the water emergency, Meijer worked to keep shelves stocked with essentials such as water, prepared foods, and sanitizer so customers could access what they needed in the face of uncertainty. Our teams across Michigan responded quickly, helping ensure impacted stores remained open, supplied, and ready to serve the community.
To help meet urgent needs, Meijer coordinated rush orders of multipack water, paper products, disposable cups and silverware, hand sanitizer, and prepackaged fresh food, delivering these essentials directly to impacted stores. The retailer also donated multiple truckloads of water to community distribution sites in Lake Orion, Orion Township, Auburn Hills, and Rochester Hills. In addition, Meijer supported the United Way of Southeastern Michigan and Avondale Schools through additional donations for local outreach efforts.
While public officials have announced that water service has been restored, a boil water advisory remains in effect for two stores and is expected to continue through the weekend. As recovery efforts continue, water distribution stations will remain open until the advisory is lifted and the water is confirmed safe to drink.
In total, Meijer donated six truckloads of water—approximately 224,000 bottles—to support relief efforts.
Meijer is grateful for the resilience, dedication, and compassion the community has shown throughout the recovery process. We remain committed to providing meaningful support and resources as Eastern Michigan continues to recover.
