Celebrating Amy Holland: 50 Years of Service at Alpine Meijer
March 02, 2026

Long-time Meijer cashier Amy Holland celebrated an impressive achievement this month – 50 years of service at the Alpine Meijer store. Amy began working at the store as a bagger when she was just 16, not realizing the job would become a lifelong career. However, Amy found that the store’s flexible scheduling allowed her to balance work with family needs and her personal life, something she’s continued to appreciate over the course of her career. For the last forty years, she has dedicated herself to the cash office, becoming a trusted presence behind the scenes.

Throughout the years, Amy has witnessed tremendous change in the retail world. When she first joined Meijer, technology was much different from today. For instance, during power outages, cashiers would have to crank the cash registers by hand.

“Meijer has been a part of every milestone in my life,” said Amy. “I even met my husband at the store.”

Today, her impact resonates through the Alpine Meijer store. She has witnessed the store’s evolution, including two major remodeling projects, and she has seen customers grow up and have families of their own. But throughout the years, her steady presence has been a source of inspiration for colleagues working alongside her.

“Amy is not only a dedicated team member who brings incredible knowledge to our store, but she also has so much love for the company that she is always a joy to be around,” said Kate MacMillan, Alpine Meijer store director. “We really appreciate the impact she’s had on our store culture over the last five decades, proving that Meijer is a great place to work, not just for a job but for a career.”

Her long tenure provided her with the unique opportunity to meet and share stories with multiple members of the Meijer family as they grew up and worked at the store, a privilege she cherished and a testament to the close-knit spirit of the company. She enjoys being part of the family-owned company all year round, but especially during events such as Very Merry Meijer, an annual holiday tradition in stores that began in 2014.

“Very Merry Meijer is such a great way for others to see the community involvement that we experience as team members every day,” she said. “I’m proud to work for Meijer and always honored to be involved with this exciting and wonderful event for our team members and customers.”

To celebrate Amy’s 50th anniversary, store leaders threw her a party. Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes, as well as Executive Chairman Hank Meijer, came to celebrate and share memories with her, along with the store and regional teams.

What’s next? While Amy may cut back her schedule to fewer days per week, she is not planning to retire just yet.

Congratulations on 50 years, Amy!
