In honor of our purpose to enrich lives in the communities we serve, United Way of South Central Michigan - Capital Area presented Meijer with its annual Corporate Partner of the Year Award at an awards ceremony in Lansing during National Volunteer Month.
According to United Way of South Central Michigan (UWSCMI) Annual Giving Associate Merry Donn, the award thanks a partnering organization for more than just their donations, but also recognizes the whole company, including its leadership and team members, for their generous support.
Together, Meijer and UWSCMI have a history of supporting the people of Lansing and our surrounding communities. In fact, 18 of our stores participated in this year’s annual employee giving campaign, as well as our Lansing Distribution Center and fleet.
“Meijer has allied itself to our mission, and this local company is more than a funder; it is a friend,” Merry said. “Meijer has been such a wonderful support for so many years and our partnership in all of our counties is a wonderful example of how we come together to take care of our communities.”
Fredrick Walker, Director of the Meijer Lansing Distribution Center, accepted the award on behalf of Meijer in a ceremony that aired locally on Fox 47 News and online.
“Our team is focused on creating personal relationships and connecting on this shared commitment to do good in our community,” Fredrick said. “Our team members see how they are helping in their communities, and they love this partnership and continue to support it year after year.”
Overall, the partnership between Meijer and United Way spans generations over a 50+ year history. Meijer currently partners with 97 United Way agencies to make an impactful difference across our footprint through hunger relief, diversity and inclusion initiatives and environmental sustainability practices, as well as health and wellness, safety and security and other local giving efforts in the communities we serve.
