Meijer has crossed the bridge into Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for the first time, opening supercenters in Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie. The new stores will provide one-stop shopping, grocery delivery and a full-service pharmacy to each of the two communities.
Meijer demonstrated its commitment to the Upper Peninsula communities by presenting donations to local organizations. The Sault Ste. Marie store director donated $25,000 to Sault Ste. Marie Area Public Schools to help support its Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Program, and the Escanaba store director donated $25,000 to the Escanaba Area Public Schools to help upgrade playgrounds and athletic facilities and $25,000 to the U.P. State Fair.
Both stores have also partnered with local food pantries for the Meijer Simply Give program. Meijer will be working with First United Presbyterian Church Food Pantry in Sault Ste. Marie and St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Escanaba. Since 2008, Simply Give has generated more than $28 million for its food pantry partners throughout the Midwest.
