As the United States auto industry moves toward an increasingly low carbon fleet of consumer cars and trucks, electric vehicles (EV) are set to play an important role in achieving those goals.

That’s why, since 2010, Meijer has been offering EV charging facilities on our corporate campus and at select stores, making Meijer part of Tesla’s national supercharging network. Currently, we have five Tesla Supercharger stations at our supercenters: one in Lexington, Ky.; a second in Englewood, Ohio; and three more in Michigan – in Cascade Township, Pittsfield Township and St. Joseph.

Supercharger stations feature eight individual units that can add an estimated 170-mile driving range to a Tesla S in just 30 minutes. Currently, there are more than 450 supercharger stations across the country, and Tesla intends to double the network by the end of 2017. The Meijer stations form an important part of this national cross country network. The first two built were located close to Interstate 75, and all of them allow owners to shop, enjoy a meal or recharge their own batteries while their vehicle does the same.
