Meijer LPGA Classic Tournament Play Kicks Off

LPGA professional Lexi Thompson sets up for a putt.

Thursday marked the first day of play at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give. So Yeon Ryu (Republic of Korea) and Kelly Shon (USA) took an early lead at Blythefield Country Club, both shooting 64 (8-under par).

Four players shot 6-under par to tie for third place, including Celine Herbin (France), Su Oh (Australia), Anna Nordqvist (Sweden) and Lizette Salas (USA). Salas said, “It was an early start for me this morning and surprisingly I was in a good mood, so I think that helped a lot. Cole [Pensanti] and I just kept laughing out there and we didn’t really talk much golf other than the shot we had in front of us, so it was overall a great day.”

Discovery Land also opened to the public on Thursday, a kids center that features NickelodeonHasbroUniversal Studios and STEM-related activities.
