Meijer has a rich Michigan history that tells the story of our passion for supporting organizations throughout the Mitten State.
We’re proud to have many long-standing partnerships. For example, in 2010, Meijer began supporting the West Michigan Sports Commission’s signature event – the State Games of Michigan. The festivities evoke a strong sense of community and state pride among the participants and spectators. We are thrilled to continue the sportsmanship the Summer and Winter Games bring to the area each year.
In 2014, Meijer brought another premier event to West Michigan that has continued annually to generate awareness of and donations for hunger relief across the Midwest. The fifth annual Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give brought world-class golf back to Blythefield Country Club. The Midwest not only has a great history when it comes to women’s golf, but it also has a tradition of giving back: this year’s tournament generated more than $1.1 million for our Simply Give program to help provide food for hungry families. In total, the five tournaments generated $4.2 million for the program.
The Meijer LPGA Classic is more than just a golf tournament; it’s a weeklong event with family-friendly activities like celebrity chef cooking demonstrations; a 5k run and walk; Discovery Land for kids that features character appearances, games and toys; the Grand Taste, a three-day tasting event with local restaurants, breweries, Meijer vendors and products, and live music.
With more than 100 stores in Michigan, Meijer sponsors a large variety of local events like ArtPrize and Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, area attractions like John Ball Zoo, and athletic teams. For example, we have relationships with organizations like the Detroit Tigers, athletics programs of various universities like Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, and minor league hockey teams including the Saginaw Spirit Hockey Club.
One of our newer sponsorships includes a landmark sponsor at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit that is home to the Detroit Pistons basketball and Detroit Red Wings hockey teams. Additionally, Meijer was pleased to partner with the Detroit Athletic League (PAL) on the opening of the Willie Horton Field of Dreams presented by Meijer, which allows Detroit-area children to play diamond sports, football, soccer and more.
