Meet the Faces of Meijer Grocery

When our two Meijer Grocery stores open in early 2023 in Southeast Michigan's Orion Township and Macomb Township, they will have familiar faces leading the teams.

Longtime Store Directors Cynthia Griggs and Mary Kimbrough are excited to bring our newest concept stores to the community. Meijer Grocery stores are designed to deliver convenience for our customers, who are looking for a simplified shopping experience, while providing communities easier access to fresher foods.

Cynthia Griggs

Cynthia will be the Store Director at our Meijer Grocery in Macomb Township and is looking forward to bringing a different shopping experience to customers and her longtime community. She’s lived in the Macomb County area for most of her life after growing up on Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Learn more about Cynthia in this fun Q&A:

Q: How long have you worked at Meijer?
A: Twenty-eight years.

Q: What Meijer stores have you worked at before?
A: I’ve worked at Meijer stores in Chesterfield, Royal Oak, Warren, Washington Twp. And most recently Detroit.

Q: What do you love most about Meijer/retail?
A: The best part of working at Meijer is the connections I’ve made with so many amazing people, which includes our teams and the customers. Working in retail is fast-paced, but there is always time to learn about people and share our stories.

Q: What excites you most about Meijer Grocery?
A: It’s a new concept that offers quick-trip convenience for the community. I can’t wait to meet people and get to know them on a first-name basis and have them call our store, their store.

Q: What’s your favorite Meijer brand product?
A: Meijer unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you?
A: I lived in Germany for a few years as a kid.

A: What do you love about the Macomb community?
Q: I love the way the community shows up to celebrate and make memories together. I especially enjoy all the events held by our Parks and Recreation department from summer concerts to holiday celebrations.

Mary Kimbrough

Mary is the Store Director for the Meijer Grocery that will open in the Lake Orion community. She feels a special connection to the area and loves to take part in local activities that bring people together. Here’s more about Mary.

Q: How long have you worked at Meijer?
A:  Thirty-six years.

Q: What Meijer stores have you worked at before?
A: Oxford, Lapeer, Auburn Hills and most recently Rochester Hills. I was also a specialist for the company and traveled to all stores in Michigan.

Q: What do you love most about Meijer/retail?
A:  I grew up at Meijer, so there is so much I love about the company. I started off as a part-time cashier, and the company has so many opportunities and is invested in developing anyone who would like to grow. I am most grateful for the core values of our company.

Q: What excites you most about Meijer Grocery?
A: I love innovation and change that enhances our customers' shopping experience. Being a part of this new venture is very exciting.

Q: What’s your favorite Meijer brand product?
A:  I love all our products, but I would have to say that our Purple Cow ice cream is at the top of the list.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you?
A: I recently learned how to navigate a dragon boat when our store competed as a team in the Lake Orion Dragon on the Lake event.

Q: What do you love about the Orion Township community?
A: I love the people of Orion Township and all the community involvement. The community has so many events that bring everyone together, such as Dragon on the Lake, Concerts in the Park, and Halloween and holiday events. I live in the next town up, Oxford, and they even have a trolley that goes from downtown Oxford to downtown Lake Orion, bringing both communities together.  When I think of Lake Orion and Orion Township, I think of a community that reaches out to help each other and the surrounding communities.
